4. Write the total you got correct out of 10 in the drawing section of your reflection.  If you do not write down your score you will get a "0" for this station.

Unit 7 (3rd Grade)

Activity: Mangroves

Skill / Objective (record in passport):  The Importance of Mangroves

Directions:  Mangrove trees are an important part of our watershed environments.  After watching the following video, write down two or more reasons why Mangroves are important in the notes section of your passport. Use the drawing part of your reflection to draw a mangrove tree, and show several of the ways it helps both other animals and its ecosystem.

Challenge:  Done early?  Check out these videos on Mangroves.  If you see anything you recognize from the watershed book we've been reading in class be sure to draw and label a picture of it in the Reflection section of your passport as well!

1.  Watch the video below:

2.  Next, use the reflection on the Computer Station page in your passport to write and illustrate your own raindrop story.  Imagine that you are a raindrop in a cloud over North Port, tell a quick story about how you travel through the Charlotte Harbor watershed to the Gulf of Mexico.  Try to include as many real geographical features as you can.

3.  Use the drawing box in your passport to illustrate your story.

Unit 5 (3rd Grade)

Activity:  A Redfish Tale: The Watershed

Skill / Objective:  Introduction to Watersheds

Directions: 
     1.  Watch the video below:



     2.  In the notes section of your passports, write:

• The definition of a watershed
• One thing that people do that harms watersheds
• One thing that you can do to help protect our watershed

    3.  In the drawing box in your passport, draw a picture of a watershed that includes land, small streams, a 

         river, and a lake or ocean.

Reflection:

1. Summarize what you did at this station.
2. Say what you thought about this station.
3. Explain what you learned about.
4. Think about where you could use what you learned.

Unit 4 (3rd grade)

Skill / Objective:  Typing Challenge

2. Select which level you'd like to compete on (you can't go below "Simple Pimple")
3. Make sure your earphones are on.
4. You will then be paired with another player somewhere in the world, the goal is to spell the spoken words faster than your opponent.  
5. This is a one day station - when station time is up write your reflection.
6. Have fun!!!

Unit 2 (3rd Grade)

Activity Name:  Three Column Notes
Standard: Comprehension
Skill / Objective (copy into passport):  Note Taking

Directions:

1. Take out a Three Column Notes activity sheet, a clipboard, and a pencil.
2. Record the topic of study in column one:  Classifying Animals.  Write down everything you already know about classifying animals in this box.
3. Click on the link: Groups of Animals.
4. As you read the online article, take notes in column two.
5. After reading, record your thoughts and opinions in column three.

Challenge:  Find a partner.  Compare your Three Column Notes and discuss your findings.

Directions:  

• Make sure your earphones are on and adjust the volume.
• Use either stopwatches at the stations (if our teacher has them) or the class clock to time yourself for this station.  After twenty minutes you will close any open windows on your computer, hang up your earphones, and move to another station.
• Click on the link: ABCya.com
• Choose your grade level from the right side of the page.
• Choose one activity from the orange Letters section to play.
• Follow the directions for the activity and enjoy.

Computer Station

Activity Name: Word Stash

Skill/Objective: (copy into your passport) Practicing Vocabulary

Directions: 

1. Click on your grade level link.
2. Review your word list, clicking on any words you aren't familiar with to see their definitions.
3. At the top of the page select Practice Mode, and select Use Definitions
4. Set your timer for ten minutes, or look at the clock to note the time.
5. Answer the questions by selecting/typing the correct word (questions can be multiple choice or fill in the blank).
6. After ten minutes of practicing your words select View List
7. At the top of the page click either Match Game or Waterfall Game and select Use Definitions (if you get an error message use the back buttons on IE to go back and try again).
8. Follow the directions to play the game until the end of station time.
9. If you get lost or confused at any point click on the "home" icon on your web browser to return to this page.
